ATypl Conference - St. Petersburg

The ATypI 08 St Petersburg conference will be held in St Petersburg, Russia from 17 to 21 September 2008 (Wednesday to Sunday). The TypeTech/TypeTools Forum and the pre-conference workshops will be held on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 September. The main conference will open with an keynote presentation on the evening of Thursday 18 September, with sessions running through Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September. A detailed overview of the program is now available.

8 fonts you probably don’t use in CSS, but should

CSS has brought us many capabilities in terms of typography and the web, but we always seem to be limited to the same 4-5 typefaces over and over again. There is an inherant problem, if the font you specify isn’t on the viewers computer it won’t render in that font. So as designers and developers we end up selecting the ones that we can safely assume is available on most computers today. About Rockwell Font

Can there be such a thing as a hit in typography? A blockbuster? The surge in the popularity of Rockwell must have come from somewhere. The Times Magazine’s use of the face goes back at least to 2001, though it has been used more prominently since 2004. One might think that Apple’s decision to bundle Rockwell with the release of its Tiger operating system in 2005 is also part of what sparked the resurgence.
